Gaining Control of your Projects by Leveraging Standard Microsoft Tools

Enterprise Project Management Systems (EPMS) are all the rage, but in reality all too often fail to deliver the benefits of better resource management, reduced project overruns and reduced cost. This is often down to incomplete or incomprehensible reporting data.

Many organisations have access to enterprise licences for Microsoft products but often struggle to leverage their functionality. Some of these capabilities are available to all, some need to be switched on by your IT department or added to your subscription. Ben’s talk will run through some of these challenges and highlight how modern self service business intelligence tools such as Power BI, combined with other tools such as Project online can help to get an interactive overview of the status of all projects and resources, allowing the easy identification of projects which are failing.

Speaker - Ben Howard

Ben is a recognised expert in the use and deployment of Power BI, SharePoint and Project Online. He has over 25 years consultancy experience implementing IT based solutions to solve business problems across all sectors, including Enterprise Project Management, ERP and other LOB solutions. During this time Ben has worked for several key industry organisations including both Microsoft and Dell, and has been presented with Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional award (MVP) for his contribution to the Microsoft community 11 years running. Ben blogs on various Power BI and Project Server scenarios, has spoken twice at the Power BI World Tour (2017 & 2018) and speaks at various Project conferences regarding Power BI and its use with Project Online. He also has articles regularly published on the Microsoft Project User Group and is the sole author of Microsoft Project 2013 Plain & Simple. His client facing Power BI & Project Online work includes report definition, process definition, installation, configuration, customisation and training (classroom, on demand via the web). Ben is familiar with Power BI, Power Query and all versions of Project from 2000 onwards. He blogs semi-frequently at His MVP profile can be reviewed here.

Data-Driven Project Management in Complex Residential and Commercial Construction Projects

This talk highlights the importance of data for an optimized control of complex construction projects. Within this talk Mario Samson will highlight the potential of data-driven project planning, progress monitoring and task management in large-scale residential and commercial construction projects. He will share his own experience of this emergent capability and some of the challenges that we need to grapple with.

Speaker - Mario Samson

Mario studied Civil Engineering at the University of Central Florida (USA). His interest in infrastructure and working with people exposed him to both design and construction management, where he saw the need for a collaborative and data-driven construction management system. It was then perfect timing for his connection with Sablono, who are generating high-quality data to facilitate continuous process improvements on construction sites.
